Does this level of drop-off mean anything to long-term health or growth of the housing industry? The debate can now be opened up. Another factor that is contributing to the drop-off is the slow economic recovery in this country. Millions of people remain out of work and millions more have been laid off in recent months. It was the perfect compilation of factors that would -each, individually- have led to a decrease in the number of pending home sales in May, regardless of other factors. Yet taken together as a whole, all aggregate factors combined to offer the struggling real estate market the worst single month drop in its history. All this according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

How to handle the news

What you do:

•Place beef on large piece of heavy duty foil (3' x 18"). Rub on onion soup mix; sprinkle excess on beef. Cover steak with vegetables. Mix butter, salt, pepper and parsley. Pour mixture over vegetables. Wrap up in foil.

The Dutch come into this match as a bit of a wild card at this World Cup. It’s hard what to make of them at times. They have not looked convincing in South Africa, and I think most Dutch fans would agree. They had arguably one of the easier draws of the tournament. They had a very, very easy World Cup qualifying group that featured Norway, Scotland, Macedonia, and Iceland. But they get the results they’ve been expected to get in those matches.

They are coached by the pragmatic Bert van Marwijk, who has only lost one match as manager of the national team, back in September of 2008 against Australia. However, under his reign, they played previous World Cup winners twice, drawing both times.

This match against Brazil is BY FAR the most difficult challenge that Holland has faced in the last two years.

Brazil needs to approach this match with great caution and awareness of what the Dutch offer in attack. Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Robin van Persie, and Arjen Robben are world class, technically gifted players. Sneijder has great accuracy on his long balls. Gregory van der Wiel is a young up and comer at right back that Michel Bastos is going to need to be vigilant about.

You see this lineup, and you think “they must always light up the score sheet.” Not exactly.

This Dutch team is not your father’s Dutch team of years past in terms of tactics. I feel that van Marwijk has taken a very cautious approach to compensate for concerns in his defense. You’ll see here that the average positioning of their holding midfielders, Mark van Bommel and Nigel de Jong, is quite far back, and they really stay that far back.

You look at parts of their back four, and you start to see why that makes sense. They were shaky in the back against Slovakia. If they give Brazil the same amount of opportunities to score they gave Slovakia they will lose this match, plain and simple.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst at left back has got to worry the Dutch fans against a full dose of Dani Alves and Maicon storming down that side of the pitch. I just can’t envision a scenario where Brazil is kept off the scoresheet in a match like this, against this defense.

The real question becomes can Holland score two goals or push it to penalties? They are capable of it of course. You look at our back four, knowing that Dani Alves, Gilberto Silva, and Felipe Melo are supporting them, with Julio Cesar in goal, and it becomes safe to say this putting two on this group is probably not going to happen.

Holland is going to need to let van Bommel and de Jong come forward to score the amount of goals I think it will be necessary for them to score to win this match in regular or extra time. It is a pick your poison dilemma because if they do that, you give Brazil space on the counter, and that normally doesn’t end well for our opponents.

Felipe Melo and Gilberto Silva’s performances will obviously play a large role in controlling the midfield play and the Dutch attack. If both continue their solid form at this World Cup the Dutch job will be that much more difficult.

Additionally, everyone needs to be vigilant about Robben’s positioning on the pitch. You cannot let him go left with the ball to release a shot. Ask Slovakia what happens when you do that.

Finally, Brazil will need to limit the fouls they give up within 30 meters of the box because Wesley Sneijder is a free kick master.

All in all, with absolute respect to the Dutch fans out there, I just think Brazil has too much quality on both ends of the pitch to lose this match.

Certainly it seems that the decision to let David Slade (30 Days Of Night, Hard Candy) direct the film was a good one, and much of the praise is being aimed in his direction. Not coming out quite so well are the pairing of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, yet nonetheless, the general consensus seems to be that this is by distance the best Twilight movie to date.

His presence at Morgan reflects a determined rebound from a steep fall from grace. In an industry in which every coach is looking for the next great job, Bozeman’s journey also raises questions about balancing loyalty with ambition.

This time 17 years ago — March 20, 1993 — Bozeman was the uncrowned prince of Division I men’s basketball. At age 29 he had become the coach at California a month after players threatened a rebellion against Lou Campanelli. With Jason Kidd at point guard, Cal enjoyed an amazing run through the tournament, peaking with an upset of Duke, the two-time defending national champion. Bozeman became the youngest coach to reach the Round of 16.

Three seasons later, however, Bozeman admitted paying $30,000 to the parents of point guard Jelani Gardner, and in August 1996 he resigned.

On Thursday Bozeman described going through an unimaginable wilderness. Friends would not take his calls. In need of employment, he worked in pharmaceuticals and coached Amateur Athletic Union ball. “I went from coaching a Pac-10 team to coaching a 9-and-under team to having a parent tell me how to coach the team,” he said.

He would not get another college head coaching job until 2006, when Floyd Kerr, the Morgan State athletic director, hired Bozeman.

Bozeman vowed to transform the program’s culture of losing to one of great expectations.

Last season Bozeman, now 46, led Morgan to its first N.C.A.A. tournament bid. This season he invoked President Obama’s journey to the White House as a metaphor for even greater accomplishments in the tournament.

Bozeman’s next great challenge will have nothing to do with strategy but with loyalty. He is certain to attract attention from a midmajor program eager to rebuild, make the tournament and take on the nation’s Goliaths. The budget no doubt will be heftier, the facilities more modern, the compensation richer than at Morgan.

In an ideal world — and this is certainly the romantic in my soul — Bozeman would stay put. He would remember who answered his call when no one else would. Bozeman can write his own ending.

He can leave for greener pastures or he can stay put and become a folk hero for the historically black colleges and universities — a latter-day Big House Gaines, the coach at Winston-Salem State for 47 years, or John McLendon, the longtime college and professional coach.

Bozeman could turn a small program into an attractive niche as Mark Few has done at Gonzaga or Eddie Robinson did at Grambling in football. That niche is taking diamonds in the rough, players with intangibles, who relish fighting through life’s picks and screens.

At an idealistic level, Bozeman said, he would love to stay. At a university politics level, he said, the going has not been as smooth as outsiders might imagine.

“The tough part is the battles you fight that are within that people are not aware that you’re fighting,” he said. “I always believed an H.B.C.U. could become a national power, but you fight the backbiting, the people who take advantage of their authority, the people who abuse their authority, the people who don’t like to see you successful.”

Asked specifically about other opportunities, Bozeman said: “I don’t know when that time will be, but I’m preparing to continue to be here. If that happens, that happens. This time has been special for me, but it’s also given me a chance to see that other side, to see why they have not been able to knock through and have that success.”

Whether he stays for 10 seasons or leaves after four, Bozeman has won a significant battle to reclaim his good name. His slate is clean.

“At the end of the day, when he’s a success, we’re a success as a department, we achieved our goals and objectives,” Kerr, the athletic director, said. “We’ve represented the university well and run a clean program. At the end of the day I think everybody will cheer everybody on and have what we call D.W.D. — departure with dignity.”

In 1996 Bozeman resigned in shame. Fourteen years later, older and wiser, he has built a program virtually from scratch. In the process he has taught young players a valuable lesson in survival. Adversity is a fact of life; how you overcome it will determine the quality of that life.

Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous has committed suicide, his publicist confirms to Rolling Stone. Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse committed suicide yesturday according to a Rolling Stone report late last night. Linkous’s family released a thankful statement to his fans, “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”

Linkous’ dramatic, lush music often came from a place of pain. In 1996, Linkous actually died for two minutes after ingesting a dangerous mix of Valium and antidepressants while on tour in the U.K. behind Sparklehorse’s 1995 debut Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot.

He recovered, but the incident left him crippled — he laid unconscious for 14 hours, cutting off circulation to his legs. He suffered a heart attack when medics attempted to straighten his legs, and underwent seven surgeries to save his damaged limbs. But after the incident, he recorded 1999’s Good Morning Spider, 2001’s It’s A Wonderful Life and 2006’s Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. “For a while there, I was really scared that when I technically died — which I guess I did for a few minutes — that the part of my brain that allowed me my ability to write songs would be damaged,” he told Rolling Stone in 1999.

"Avatar" and "The Hurt Locker" have been duking it out all awards season. Now, the two films face their final showdown: They enter the 82nd annual Academy Awards prizefight with nine nominations apiece. While he hasn’t seen all of the Oscar nominations for 2010, he can comment just as well as most of the voters, who haven’t seen them, either. Unlike the official tally, I will whack my choices for your enjoyment – and the old skull and bones that is Price Waterhouse accounting won’t secret my choices away in a vault until March 7, 2010. They can neither stop me nor contain me.

The films – which, coincidentally, are by former husband-and-wife James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow – couldn't be more different. "Avatar" is an eye-popping 3-D science-fiction studio extravaganza: It is the most expensive film ever made and has gone on to be the most successful film ever, earning more than $2 billion so far, worldwide. By contrast, "The Hurt Locker" is a gritty, low-budget, independent film about a bomb-disposal unit in the Iraq War. Though it has earned plenty of accolades this awards season, it has yet to crack the $13-million mark at the box office.

Let’s start with Best Picture

I’ve actually seen four of the 10 nominees, so I’m feeling good about this one.

* “Avatar” – Seen it, and it has certainly been a phenomenon, hasn’t it? I say the wave won’t stop on Oscar night and this 3D marvel will win. Just because the story and characterizations aren’t original or particularly inspired doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve this recognition.
* “The Blind Side” – I hear Sandra Bullock is nominated for her performance in this one. I haven’t seen it, but I can’t imagine it can win.
* “District 9″ – This is a movie that surprised me a great deal. I expect more good things from Neill Blomkamp in the near future. Does it have dark horse potential?
* “An Education” – No comment.
* “The Hurt Locker” – For the love of Pete, stop with the Middle East war propaganda films, regardless of what side of the fence they’re on.
* “Inglourious Basterds” – Along with “Kill Bill: Volume 1″ and “Jackie Brown,” this is my favorite Tarantino film. But come on… he actually crowns it his masterpiece in the dialogue of the film. If Quentin wasn’t so humble in real life (he isn’t), I wouldn’t believe it.
* “Precious” – For the love of Pete, stop with the obesity and abusive home propaganda films, regardless of what side of the fence they’re on.
* “A Serious Man” – No comment.
* “Up” – I found this to be a touching movie. It loses its way for a while when the old man and boy wander around with the talking dogs and dodo bird, but Pixar knows how to tell good stories. Best Animated Movie, for sure. But the animation giants are getting closer to the top of the heap.
* “Up In The Air” – Perhaps a George Clooney Oscar, but probably not best picture. However, I will put it in dark horse territory.

Best Actor

I’ve seen none of these films, so I’ll go by random impulse and what I know about these performers.

* Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart” – The Dude abides in a country vein. I’d like to see it.
* George Clooney in “Up In The Air” – The likely winner. I think he’s an excellent actor and chooser of girlfriends.
* Colin Firth in “A Single Man” – An excellent actor, but this isn’t his year.
* Morgan Freeman in “Invictus” – For the love of Pete, stop with the racial equality propaganda films, regardless of what side of the fence they’re on. I’m a huge Freeman and Clint Eastwood fan. And I work with a guy who’s a rugby yannigan.
* Jeremy Renner in “The Hurt Locker” – Already covered with extreme prejudice.

Best Actress

* Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side” – As long as the movie continues to speed down the highway at over 55 mph, everyone will be OK.
* Helen Mirren in “The Last Station” – Great actress who shouldn’t be as upset as she is about her tattoo no longer marking her as being radical. If she doesn’t win, the Precious girl will.
* Carey Mulligan in “An Education” – I have no educational background for this one.
* Gabourey Sibide in “Precious” – Already covered with extreme prejudice, but she may win.
* Meryl Streep in “Julie and Julia” – An absolute chameleon. But I think this movie may be too slight to snare her an award. Of course I haven’t seen it…

Best Supporting Actor

* Matt Damon in “Invictus” – I like him. He won’t win.
* Woody Harrelson in “The Messenger” – I sometimes like him. He will never win an Oscar.
* Christopher Plummer in “The Last Station” – Great actor, underrated.
* Stanley Tucci in “The Lovely Bones” – I hear his role is the only good thing about this movie, as Peter Jackson may be devolving back to his “Meet the Feebles” days as a director.
* Christoph Waltz in “Inglourious Basterds” – Ab-so-lute-ly. He is excellent as the German colonel. This is a no-doubter.

Best Supporting Actress

* Penelope Cruz in “Nine” – She isn’t in over her head here. Looking at the other nominees, she could even win.
* Vera Farminga in “Up In The Air” – No comment, yet.
* Maggie Gyllenhaal in “Crazy Heart” – Bare minimum, Gyllenhaal still deserves applause for her work in “Secretary.” Watch me applaud.
* Anna Kendrick in “Up In The Air” – No comment, yet.
* Mo’Nique in “Precious” – No, thank you.

Best Director

* James Cameron for “Avatar” – Riding the wave, and it’s no fluke. He is a skilled moviemaker who has made something genuinely visionary. Odds are good, if Bigelow doesn’t snatch it away.
* Kathyn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker” – Odds are good here, too. Or at least that’s the groundswell the media has been trying to start the past few weeks.
* Quentin Tarantino for “Inglourious Basterds” – He is talented, but he must become a bit less self-congratulatory.
* Lee Daniels for “Precious” – I don’t know.
* Jason Reitman for “Up In The Air” – He knows what he’s doing, and he is in this race.

Best Animated Feature

* “Coraline” – I know of few pop culture figures as overrated as Neil Gaiman. And my daughter didn’t like this movie.
* “Fantastic Mr. Fox” – She did like this one, however. It’s in the running, but I don’t think it will win.
* “The Princess And The Frog” – I suppose this deserves some praise for its groundbreaking elements.
* “The Secret Of Kells” – I don’t know.
* “Up” – I want this to win. It made your payday loans blogger cry.

Current Olympic champion in skiing and other grieving community for free professional skiers, CR Johnson, who died in a fall while skiing a steep fall in Squaw Valley in California. Cr Johnson was a famous American skiing and was expert in freestyle and freeride.Cr Johnson was born on 8th October 1983 in California. He was a born star as he started skiing in very small age. He used to do skiing on his home mountains. His parents and family knew that he will do some wonder when grew up. "This is a man of very, very strong skiing talent," Rogers said. "This young man had been a fixture here at Squaw Valley for years. ... He grew up at Squaw Valley."

Nancy Cushing, chief executive officer of Squaw Valley USA, said Johnson was skiing Wednesday afternoon at the Light Towers section of the resort and had an accident.

"It's a terrible tragedy," Cushing said told the Sacramento Bee. "He was part of the Squaw Valley family." "C.R. grew up on the mountain," Cushing said. "We have a lot of Olympic athletes in Vancouver, and a lot of them are his friends. It'll be very sad for them." He fell face-first, then spun around and struck the back of his head on rocks in the Light Towers area of the resort. Johnson was wearing a helmet, but Rogers said the helmet took a serious blow.

The reading, provided by Standard & Poor’s this morning, was actually in line with expectations to a little better, with the 10-city composite index of prices without seasonal adjustment falling 0.2%, just as expected, and the seasonally-adjusted numbers down 0.3%, more than expected, which should be a good sign.

The 20-city Shiller composite, however, came in less than expected at 145.90 versus economists’ expectations for 146.28. Bloomberg’s Timothy Homan notes it was the seventh consecutive monthly decline for the 20-city index, a “sign of stabilization,” as he puts it.

Nevertheless, taking their cue from the broader market decline, home builder shares are sharply lower, with Pulte Homes (PHM) off 34 cents, or 3%, at $11.04, Toll Brothers (TOL) down 25 cents, or 1.3%, at $19.14, DR Horton (DHI) off 31 cents, or 2.4%, at $12.61, KB Home (KBH) down 45 cents, or almost 3%, at $16.35.

The latest Case Shiller data for their National Home Price Index is out. It shows the “the pace of deterioration has stabilized for now.”

For Q4 2009, US Home prices dropped 2.5%. vs Q4 ‘08. For all of 2009, quarterly price drops were:

Q2 = 14.7%
Q3 = 8.7%
Q4 = 2.5%

For the month of December, the 20 city index fell 3.1% over November 2009. In December, 15 of the 20 metro areas showed a decline in December over November, with Chicago posting the sharpest decline, down 1.6%. Las Vegas finally posted its first positive print in more than three years, with +0.2%.

The Writers Guild of America, East honors Albee during its 62nd annual ceremony at the Hudson Theatre. The award was created in the memory of former guild executive director Burkey, who dedicated her professional life to supporting writers.

Longtime Albee producer Elizabeth Ireland McCann and Bill Irwin (Tony Award for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) will present the award.

"In both word and deed, Edward Albee has lived a life of letters that distinguishes writers wherever they may be. He would be a notable recipient of the Burkey Award for his body of work alone, but in addition, through his Edward F. Albee Foundation and its William Flanagan Center, Mr. Albee has encouraged and honored the creativity of countless others toiling in all aspects of the arts," said Writers Guild of America, East president Michael Winship in a statement.

Turner's agent confirmed the actress is in negotiations to star in the premiere of Matthew Lombardo's three-hander, "High," which is expected to bow in June at a theater yet to be announced, followed by several other venues.

There is also commercial attachment to the project, according to the playwright, whose "Looped," starring Valerie Harper as Tallulah Bankhead, begins Broadway performances Friday and opens next month.

"Looped" helmer Rob Ruggiero will direct "High," which centers on a nun and the 19-year-old drug addict she is trying to help. The third character is a priest who runs the treatment facility.

Turner's Rialto credits include "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "The Graduate." She also directed a revival of Beth Henley's "Crimes of the Heart" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and then Off Broadway.

Her screen roles include "Body Heat," "Romancing the Stone," "War of the Roses," "Prizzi's Honor," "Peggy Sue Got Married," "Serial Mom" and "Marley and Me." On TV she had returning roles in "Friends" and "Californication."

Challenging economic conditions over the last 18 months have no doubt reinforced the importance of teamwork in the workplace. As each goose flaps its wings it creates uplift for the others behind it. By flying in a V formation the whole flock adds 71% flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Lesson 1:
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are travelling on the trust of another.

When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and the resistance of trying to fly along and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.

Lesson 2:
If we have as much sense as the geese we will stay in formation with those who are headed where we want to go and be willing to accept their help as well as give ours to others.

When the goose gets tired it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies at the point position.

Lesson 3:
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership with people as with geese, we are interdependent on each other.

The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Lesson 4:
We need to make sure our honking from behind is encouraging and not something else.

When a goose gets sick or wounded or shot down two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it is able to fly again or dies. Then they launch out on their own with another formation or catch up with the flock.

Lesson 5:
If we have as much sense as geese we too stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.

When British tennis player Andy Murray headed into today’s men’s singles final of the 2010 Australian Open, he had hoped that he would not only defeat the world’s number 1 Roger Federer, but win his first Grand Slam title as well. But according to theglobalherald.com, it unfortunately didn’t happen for him, after Federer beat Murray by three sets to love, 6-3 6-4 7-6 (13-11), giving top seeded Federer his fourth Australian Open men’s singles title.

The United States is promising more aid. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said he signed orders to send more U.S. ships to the region. These ships will carry cranes and other equipment to help move debris.

Another earthquake, this time 5.9 on the Richter scale, shook the Island of Hispaniola Wednesday morning. Originally the news reports pegged the quake at 6.1 in magnitude, but the U.S. Geological Survey has since downgraded it.

The earthquake, which struck at 6:03 am local time, was located 35 miles (60 km) west-southwest of Port-au-Prince. The quake was centered at 18.385°N, 72.870°W at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km).

That January 12th earthquake, which turned many of the buildings into rubble, may have killed 200,000 people, according to Haiti-News.net. There were no initial reports of injury or damage from today’s tumbler, but most Haitians were already moved to the streets and open areas since the last major 7.0 earthquake hit eight days ago.

“People camping in the streets of Port au Prince ran away from the already damaged buildings when the low vibration of the earthquake was first heard,” the Haiti News report stated.

Ban Ki-moon in Haiti Sunday, the UN wants to raise 562 million dollars

Haiti: The United Nations announced Friday that its chief Ban Ki-moon would go to Haiti on Sunday to assess humanitarian needs and appealed to the international community to raise $ 562 million intended to help the Haitians.

Mr. Ban will travel to Haiti during a visit of 24 hours to show "solidarity with the Haitian people and UN personnel" on site, very affected by the earthquake.

"30% of buildings in Port-au-Prince have suffered, and in some areas half the buildings are either destroyed or uninhabitable and loose," said John Holmes had a little earlier during a press briefing.

"We must rapidly establish refugee camps with points of water and food," he said.

Water is a major concern, and trucks of UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) began to bring in supplies of disinfectant tablets.

The United Nations also plans to set up schools in camps.

The main warehouse of the World Food Program (WFP) in Port-au-Prince, containing 6,000 tons of food aid, has been damaged by the earthquake, but not robbed as initially feared the agency, said John Holmes.

WFP is preparing to send supplies tailored to the situation, including millions of kits to eat without cooking. If the priority is "the search and rescue of survivors" still caught under the rubble, Mr. Holmes acknowledged that there was very little hope.

The International Red Cross estimated between 40 and 50,000 deaths.

Keep two months on your desk (January - February; April - May) in an area that is easy to get to - colored file folders really help too. The same holds true for those toll receipts or the lunch you purchased when you met a potential client. Now you can either send the file to your bookkeeper or if you are the designated bookkeeper, once you have reconciled your accounts file the completed month away in your file cabinet.

2. Client Invoices. When a client invoice is prepared, print out an extra copy and file it in an invoice file marked for that particular year. 3. Mileage Log. At the end of the year, burn all the monthly statements onto a CD and store with your income taxes for that year. Most banks only hold 18 months of statements, some only 12 months on their server. The IRS requires you to hold 7 years of bank statements in case of audit. Once the CD is created, you can then delete the files from your computer and create a new folder for the new year.

It also is great to do a little magic show in front of the camera as well. Now the reason that this is helpful is it really gives you a view of your whole performance and your patter as well. If you do not know what a magicians patter is I will explain.

Which brings me to another point about never repeating a trick for the same audience, just like you notice more mistakes and weak points in your magic performance as you watch yourself recorded, they will be looking more carefully the second or third time through as well and you will get caught. As a magician you really want to guard the secret of the tricks, and there are many reasons for that as well which I will talk about another time.

I know it sounds like a lot of work to perfect a magic trick but if you do not want to look foolish then it is well worth the effort, plus it is kind of fun to see yourself perform on camera. Another important note about practice, is to practice the trick slowly especially in the beginning. As they say it is not practice that makes perfect but perfect practice makes perfect. Then speed up little by little as you build muscle memory pretty soon you will be performing the magic trick very smoothly. This also keeps you from getting in the habit of rushing through a trick, because you are afraid that they will catch you making your special move that makes the trick work. That kind of movement just makes the audience more suspicious. The field of Dyslexia treatment has changed significantly in recent years. As a licensed educational psychologist and a person who has struggled with Dyslexia, I have been on both sides of Dyslexia treatment. I was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age and I attended the Kildonan School for students with dyslexia. I feel that I have largely overcome this disorder and I have actually found ways to use this positively in my life (my career choice being one example).

Students with dyslexia may have some advantages today. When I was in school computer use was uncommon, and I had to carry an electronic spell checker wherever I went. These were not available until I was a senior in high school. There is no still no cure for dyslexia, but dyslexic individuals can learn to read and write with appropriate educational support.

For alphabet writing systems, the fundamental aim is to increase a child's awareness of correspondences between graphemes (alphabetic letters) and phonemes (the smallest segmental unit of sound employed to form meaningful contrasts between utterances), and to relate these to reading and spelling. It has been found that training focused towards visual language and orthographic issues (the orthography of a language specifies the correct way of using a specific writing system to write the language) yields longer-lasting gains than mere oral phonological training.

The best approach is determined by the underlying neurological cause(s) of the dyslexic symptom.

Treatment that most psychologists perform today includes re-learning basic reading and writing skills through memorization techniques adapted for the particular student. Psychologists can also focus on other issues common to individuals with dyslexia such as penmanship, spelling, and increasing focus and concentration. Finally, a psychologist can write a letter to your child's school to allow for increased test taking time, a reader during tests (including the SAT) and other suitable accommodations.
