The consumers and businesses can largely benefit by buying the phone directly from Google. This avoids any contractual obligation for service. The arrival of Nexus One will have a significant impact on the Smartphone market dominated by Apple and Nokia. The open source approach is the greatest strength for Google. While, the iPhone users have to come out of the singular vision strategy to survive in today's market.

What does Nexus One contain?

Nexus One contains a HTC hardware customized by Google. It contains the following specifications:

1Ghz Snapdragon processor that runs on the Android 2.1 version.
5.0 Mega-pixel camera
Two microphones to assist in noise cancellation
4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen
320MB RAM and 512MB ROM
Wi-Fi
3G with HSDPA and EDGE/GPRS
Bluetooth, USB
GPS with A-GPS
MicroSD card support

What is the game plan?

There are a number of Android based handsets released by the carrier and manufacturer during the last year. T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon each offer mobile handsets built on Android. The most notable recent releases are Motorola Cliq and Droid phones. With so many high profile handsets in the market, Google has to compete with iPhones, Blackberrys and other Android phones.

The Google Nexus One has an advantage of being a carrier independent handset device that can used across any GSM-based carrier.

Nexus One is planned to be released in late January 2010. More likely, this phone will provide serious competition to the iPhone.
