When British tennis player Andy Murray headed into today’s men’s singles final of the 2010 Australian Open, he had hoped that he would not only defeat the world’s number 1 Roger Federer, but win his first Grand Slam title as well. But according to theglobalherald.com, it unfortunately didn’t happen for him, after Federer beat Murray by three sets to love, 6-3 6-4 7-6 (13-11), giving top seeded Federer his fourth Australian Open men’s singles title.

The Swiss player of course brought his usual excellent game to the court at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, hitting 46 winners in three sets compared to Murray’s 29. Murray did appear to be playing more defensively though.

After the match was over, an emotional Andy Murray said that Roger Federer was a lot better than him in the match. He then went on to say that one day, he hopes that he can go back there and win and said that he was sorry it wasn’t then.
