Safe Travel Tips For Women, Have a Fun, Relaxing Trip While Staying Safe

So, you're taking a trip. How exciting! But you're a little nervous, also. Some of your friends and family scoff. They tell you that as a female you shouldn't travel alone, it's not safe! Consider these guidelines to help insure your safety so you can have the time of your life.

Remember to follow the same basic safety techniques you use everyday. Always be alert and aware of your surroundings, especially the people. Just as you would at home, walk with purpose, look and act confident. Keep your head up and eyes scanning. Although brief eye contact can demonstrate confidence in some places prolonged eye contact is an invitation to flirt or may even provoke aggressive behavior from strangers.

Watch the crowd. Thieves prefer large crowds for pick pocketing. Carry your bag close to you, under your arm, against your side. Carry extra cash on your body- perhaps in your bra or stockings in case you are separated from your bag.

Don't bring your bling. Besides the possibility of losing it or having it stolen, displaying expensive jewelry may send a message that you have more and may be worth robbing. Although you may consider buying and wearing a cheap wedding ring to give the impression that you have an escort. This may also help to avoid any unwanted attention from trolling men.

Consider dressing like local women. It may be best to try to blend in rather than stand out as a tourist. You should at least dress modestly. In many countries short skirts and bare bellies are offensive and can get you some attention you could do without.

Things to have in your bag: Flashlight, cell phone-if there is service, snack, ID, whatever over-the-counter medicines you may need and, of course, a camera to get pictures of all the great places you visit so you can show your skeptical friends when you get home.
